Reopening of Nature Tourism Activities at Mount Rinjani National Park 2025

Following a comprehensive evaluation process of the climbing management system, the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority has officially announced the reopening of nature tourism and trekking activities across six destinations within the park, effective August 11, 2025.

This decision was made based on the outcome of the Evaluation Meeting held on August 8, 2025, involving multiple ministries, institutions, and relevant stakeholders.

Key points for prospective trekkers to note include:

Revised Climbing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been implemented, covering trail classification adjustments (Grade IV), guide-to-visitor ratio, insurance system, and safety contingency plans.

Policy evaluations will be conducted regularly to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors.

The park management urges all trekkers to help preserve Mount Rinjani’s natural environment responsibly to ensure the sustainability of its ecosystem.

Mount Rinjani National Park Authority has official

Mount Rinjani National Park Authority has officially announced the latest hiking regulations for 2025, outlined in the 5th Revision of the Hiking SOP. These new rules are designed to enhance safety, comfort, and responsibility for all hikers visiting the Rinjani area.

Key updates include the requirement to present a valid medical certificate issued no more than one day before the hike, completing a declaration form, and providing proof of insurance. Hikers must also have prior hiking experience, which can be verified through photos, certificates, or an interview.

For hikers under 17 years old, participation is only allowed if accompanied by a parent or guardian with written consent. Beginners must be accompanied by an experienced guide. The updated SOP also clarifies guide and porter ratios: one guide for a maximum of five hikers, and one porter for every two foreign hikers or three local hikers.

All hiking equipment must meet the required safety standards. One notable new regulation is the ban on carrying active speakers or musical instruments, aimed at preserving the natural tranquility of the mountain environment. These rules apply to all official hiking routes on Mount Rinjani.

With this updated SOP, the park authority encourages all hikers to prioritize safety and show greater care for the preservation of Rinjani’s natural beauty.
